The mention of Kitty Hawk, a little town just up the road from Nags Head, brings a good memory to me. I met Treebeard there nearly thirty-one years ago!swamp4mehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03500364141244115390noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10279728.post-82212705178441454472009-03-09T13:27:00.000-04:002009-03-09T13:27:00.000-04:00Very cool! Any mention of this place brings that right to mind, like a stray scent on the wind can recall a memory long forgotten!Ellen Rathbonehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17684750034177425795noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10279728.post-40722849672848615062009-03-08T20:06:00.000-04:002009-03-08T20:06:00.000-04:00pushesrb,All is well. BTW, did you ever check out the blog, Amanda's Veranda?

denapple,
Yes, indeed, there are chuckling frogs. They are laughing at us for changing our clocks :Dswamp4mehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03500364141244115390noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10279728.post-2838917884439610862009-03-08T19:42:00.000-04:002009-03-08T19:42:00.000-04:00The frogs where having a major chorus at Muscatatu...The frogs where having a major chorus at Muscatatuck NWR today. Is there such a thing as a chuckling frog? I kept looking over my shoulder to see who was laughing, but apparently it was a frog. They aren't bothered by DST at all, and don't see why anyone else should be!denapplehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08430678769172400129noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10279728.post-51779216018977852062009-03-08T18:44:00.000-04:002009-03-08T18:44:00.000-04:00I must say that I am slightly jealous of your Nags...I must say that I am slightly jealous of your Nags Head trip. What a beautiful weekend for it! I haven't been in far too long.

Strangely enough, I am actually excited about the time change. More time to get things done after work!!! More horse training time. Haha, strange change of pace for me. Go figure. Hope all is well.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10279728.post-50064213302559362642009-03-08T18:13:00.000-04:002009-03-08T18:13:00.000-04:00Tom,I believe the crab is a purse crab, Persephona...Tom,
I believe the crab is a purse crab, Persephona mediterranea. As for the time change, with your new addition you may not be sleeping much for a while anyway ;)

FC,
The beach at the outer banks can be interesting -- as long as it's not tourist season ;) Perhaps we should start an anti-DST society...

Paul,
There are nice swamps all up and down the coastal plain of NC. I am partial to Merchants Millpond in the northeast portion of the state, but Pettigrew and Goose Creek have some pretty areas as well. Dismal Swamp, while an interesting place, will not give you the sense of being in a swamp. Check out the state parks website at http://www.ncparks.gov You will find descriptions of the parks as well as information on upcoming programs. If you are going to be in the southern part of the coastal plain, I would recommend the Green Swamp. I believe the Nature Conservancy maintains a trail there.

pablo,
Perhaps you're right. Maybe they could just change the northern states and let me have my sunny mornings back.

CCandJJ,
Thanks! I'm glad you like the blog. And I know a lot of people like DST, I'm just more of a morning person I guess. Plus, I spend so much time outdoors I get used to telling the time by the position of the sun. Throws me off when they change the clock on me ;)swamp4mehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03500364141244115390noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10279728.post-75981343695073662692009-03-08T14:52:00.000-04:002009-03-08T14:52:00.000-04:00Love your blog!I kinda sorta like this time change...Love your blog!I kinda sorta like this time change(once I get past today, that is-where has the day gone?).It allows me to work in the yard later, when I get home from work.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08302610545871593886noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10279728.post-27140985144234199502009-03-08T13:12:00.000-04:002009-03-08T13:12:00.000-04:00I think most of the folks who hate DST live in the...I think most of the folks who hate DST live in the southern states (where they have 20 hours of sunlight a day anyway). Those in the north may appreciate the extra useful hour of sunlight though. Is there a particular swamp that you would recommend? We enjoy both ranger-led experiences and opportunities for quiet experiences and solitude. I'm sure we can't make a bad choice since any swamp will be an exciting contrast to the high desert that we call home.
