Now that we have moved (only about .25 mile as the crow flies)I am looking forward to learning the locals.swamp4mehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03500364141244115390noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10279728.post-80182875531422465982009-05-17T10:48:00.000-04:002009-05-17T10:48:00.000-04:00Like Hugh said.

I'll have to keep a particularly sharp eye out for box turtles to document in those areas. I might run across Ernest again.Waynehttp://sparkleberrysprings.com/v-web/b2noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10279728.post-55661899876754121132009-05-16T22:06:00.000-04:002009-05-16T22:06:00.000-04:00Robbie,

The fact that all parts of the plant except for the ripe fruit are poisonous makes me just a little hesitant ;)swamp4mehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03500364141244115390noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10279728.post-48532094835014951172009-05-16T10:38:00.000-04:002009-05-16T10:38:00.000-04:00as a kid, I ate them. I had no ill effects from it, but not sure if I would advise eating them or not... I may have just been lucky.
:-)Robbiehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16560118564120397935noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10279728.post-8986015357268442242009-05-16T07:56:00.000-04:002009-05-16T07:56:00.000-04:00Hugh,

A quality they share with the toad :)swamp4mehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03500364141244115390noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10279728.post-11276244935817543502009-05-15T23:15:00.000-04:002009-05-15T23:15:00.000-04:00Well I find this charming. Is there any creature ...Well I find this charming. Is there any creature more adorable than a box turtle? And it has its own apple. This is one of the best mutualisms ever.

Once I was told (by an interpreter!) that pioneers believed it was bad luck to knock a May apple off the plant, so dogs were forced to run back and forth through the patches. Dogs: bad luck absorbers.Hugh Griffithhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10009591922841705072noreply@blogger.com
