Pennywort,
Hydrocotyle verticillataSometimes, if you lay down on your belly on the boat dock and stick your head over the side, you get a different view of things. Small plants look bigger somehow and you start to notice the little things...
...like spiders carrying eggcases...
...or an anonymous damselfly, resting for a bit...
...possibly a male velvet ant, looking for love in all the wrong places...
...or a cryptic message left by some sort of leaf miner.
Or, you could just end up with a dirty shirt and dried duckweed in your hair.

I love your photos---I live 200 miles south of the Arctic Circle, so nature doesn't have the lushness it does at your parallel.
I've been studying leaf miners---check out my blog for some interesting shots of Phyllocnistis populiella.
GASP! I love peenyworts but never knew what they were called!!
xoxo Thank you! :-)
. . . or end up with ticks.
Thanks for being down and dirty and sharing.
I love the leaf miner photo. I don't think I've ever seen penny wort up here in PA. Very cool plant.
pic's are great, must be nice to have a job like yours..
Eero - thanks for stopping by. I did check out your blog and I plan to return often to see how things are going up in the frozen north.
SQMojo - anything for you! I'm glad you like the pennyworts.
OW - luckily not too many ticks on the dock. I do get some odd looks from time to time when I'm stretched out on the ground, nose to the dirt :)
meresy_g - it is a cool plant. There are several different species in our area.
eddie - it is very nice to have a job like mine, but the photos on SwampThings are mostly taken on my days off. For the most part, the photos I take at work are posted on my other blog, SwampStuff.
I've decoded the message!!
"Eat at Joes."
If I lay down on my dock I get wet labs shnuffling me to see what's wrong. Crazy canines...
I like your perspective.
Thanks for a pleasant read.
Mr. B, I think you're on to something. I saw a bunch of little leaf-miner sized cars out in front of Joe's just yesterday...
But FC, isn't it nice to know that they care? ;)
Thanks, Belle. I find, sometimes, that it is helpful to change one's perspective.
Hmm, you didn't get lost in the pennywort forest did you?
Kind of seems that way doesn't it Rurality? Here's to hoping she manages to wander out. She's probably just distracted by some wildlife, not lost. :P
