I have never seen a luna moth but would love to. They are just amazing. What can I plant in my yard to attract them? What plants do their caterpillars need?
meresy_g, according to "Caterpillars of Eastern North America," by David L. Wagner, luna cats use the following foodplants: "Many forest trees but with decided local preferences; favorites include birch, black gum, hickory, pecan, persimmon, sweet gum, and walnut." The caterpillars I have found around here have been on sweet gum and black gum.

Is this paid for by the makers of Lunesta?
i can feel the green thinking about turning here . . .
Beautiful greens! I can hear that fat frog singing "it's not easy being green..."
Decorate your yard early! It's only 7 months until St. Patrick's day!
How does that frog sleep like that?
The moth is stunning!
Mr. B, Lunesta tried to get us to sign a contract, but we declined.
SQMojo, the thought hasn't occurred to most of our green here -- it'll hang on until October.
Lynne, it may not be easy being green, but he's having no problem catching his dinner. Check out those bulges!
FC, early decoration is not one of my trademarks. Late to no decoration is more like it :)
A i P, those sticky toes of his help him hang on, I guess.
