You hope for rain and you get lightning...I guess that's the way it is sometimes. We're fighting fire again in the swamp. It started pretty close to the same place a fire started in 2008, but this one, at only a week old, is already larger than that one -- and the '08 fire burned for four months.

Oh, my goodness!! How close is the fire to you?? Mother Nature is certainly unpredictable.
The fire is on park property now. It is still several miles from our visitor center and we are hoping to be able to stop it before it reaches the building. We've been reinforcing fire lines and worked yesterday to get our structure protection equipment in place.
wow. yup, must be summer. the middle photo is REALLY cool. best of luck.
Terrifying..
amazing photos, but how terrifying
biobabbler,
The smoke has been very impressive. The fire is burning hot in spots, creeping in others.
Samantha,
It can be anxiety-producing for sure! By the way, I really enjoyed your photos of the dogs enjoying the pool ;)
Great photos, wow!
I'm here from Murr Brewster's page, attracted by your handle. Turns out, we may have more in common than I could have guessed. The blogosphere, like the swamp, is full of surprising creatures we never might have glimpsed if we hadn't bothered to stay and poke around. Hope you'll stick around.
Thanks, Alyssa!
Nance, welcome. I do intend to stick around. It may be a while between posts, but I'll be here.
