While We're On the Subject...

Here's another little stinker: Acrosternum hilare, Green stink bug. The Latin names means "cheerful" or "lively" - don't you just wonder about the folks that assign these names...

Well, I was going to say that that's hilarious . . . but, now we're getting a wee bit redundant.

And as long as we're doing a riff on Latin taxonomic designations . . . how 'bad' is Turdus migratorius for one of the dearest birds we encounter?

Yes, it is unfortunate for the robin...but how about the aptly named Tyrannus tyrannus and Mimus polyglottos - some do seem to fit :)
