This is either a musk turtle hatchling or a mud turtle hatchling...either way, it's a cute little critter.

I have been MIA for a few weeks---too busy for blog-visiting in the evenings. Hope you work out the camera problem and continue posting your wonderful sightings!

If he had a twin, they'd be earrings in the making. I see Martha Stewart swooping in on the new trend.

My first visit to your site. Wow. You take some incredibly great photographs. I am knocked out. I've been exploring new blogs today and found yours. I think you and I both comment over at Pure Florida, and maybe I've seen you at Roundrock. I'm so glad I stopped by. I love what you see, and how well you photograph it. What kind of Panasonic do you use. We have an FZ20. We love it.

I really like the patterns on the turtle back. It would make a great start for an art piece.

Welcome RD! I use, well perhaps I should say, did use, a Panasonic DMC FZ5. It is angry with me at the moment though, due to a little incident in the swamp...

Ontario, I agree that the turtle would make a great start for an art piece, but that is the turtle's belly, not its back. The carapace is plain in color and the plastron will lose those bright spots as the turtle ages.

SQMojo, you don't need a palm reader -- I have been, and continue to be, lucky in love :)
Mr. Swamp is not only the love of my life, he is my best friend. Who could ask for more?

Oh I thought the camera had started behaving again... I take it that the answer's no.

Cute turtle anyway! I'm jealous - we haven't seen any babies.
