Day Trippin

A day at the beach...well, a half day at the beach. We didn't decide to go until about 2:00 in the afternoon.

I like the beach when it isn't crowded. Apparently, this fine fellow feels the same way. As soon as I stopped to take his picture he decided he had other places to be...

...perhaps it was something I said?

Between the dunes a path had been cleared and sand was piled up on either side. Treebeard called this the "Sand Canyon"

Gotta have a little flower power in the dunes.

Just outside the restaurant where we ate dinner, an osprey was sitting on her nest. She seemed quite unconcerned by our attentions.

She even turned to let me get a shot of her good side.

Also visible from the restaurant, waaayyyy in the distance, was the Bodie Island Light. 12x zoom is fun, but grainy :)

Wow. That just make me feel good inside! Do you know whose idea that was?

BTW - I just referenced your Decumaria barbara - climbing hydrangea aka woodvamp :-) of last year. I'm pretty sure it was you who posted the flowers, but I couldn't find them.

So you DO leave the swamp sometimes.
Sounds like a nice afternoon.

Nice pics (as usual).

Beatles?

FC - Yes, on rare occassion, with sufficient incentive, I can be persuaded to venture out of the swamp. The incentive for this trip was a broiled seafood platter ;)

Bloggy - Thanks, and I believe you're right about the Beatles.

Very nice pictures and they're especially nice since I live no where near the ocean.

The nest looks really big, so I'm assuming the bird is big. Very nice picture.

I failed to mention how beautiful the flower was and that I really loved the picture of the disturbed, pushed back sand dunes.

Abandoned - the osprey is a big bird. It has a wing span of 4-1/2 to 6 feet. I love to watch them hunt fish -- they hover above the water and then plunge in feet-first to grab their prey.

Nice pictures. We have osprey down here nesting on top of utility poles. The power people or someone puts little flags on the wires so the birds won't fly into them. Glad you got your sea food dinner. Around here we are just about ready to eat anything but and I still have a big bag of Alaskan snow crab legs in the freezer I have to cook soon. At least the cat fish is gone - have to start working on the shrimp also - I keep asking my room mate if we could go to the park with some of the frozen shrimp and let me fish for a while - but he won't bite because he still can't use his arm and can't fish.
