I think you're going to find it difficult to ID them by the exuviae. Some limited keys exist (I found one for eight species in Brazil), but most of what I can find says it's usually difficult to pin down a genus that way, let alone a full species. I suppose it would be easier if you lived in a place that had very few cicada species to begin with. But then that wouldn't be very much fun...

Could it be a male and a female, hence the size difference?

You're probably right. I usually ID cicadas by song rather than appearance -- don't guess that helps in this case ;)
