I like your chicken image. I've no memory of ever seeing a Cypress tree. Guess I'll have to visit the south sometime.
I do have, somewhere, a slide photo of Fig knees or at least aboveground roots of Fig trees. They were over a metre tall as I remember and there was some tree, perhaps Banyan (sp?) that had roots dropping down from the limbs so that one tree looked like a miniature forest. Both photos were taken on a trip that I did in Australia almost 10 years ago.
OW,in June of 2004 we made our first ever trip to the mysterious north.
As we were riding along the interstate in Maine I kept noticing a tree that looked for all the world like a cypress.
I knew it wasn't, of course, but it had that same look. Turned out to be a larch (tamarack). We were all quite excited to add a new tree to our experience and once we were on less traveled roads we stopped and touched one. It definitely didn't feel like a cypress despite its appearance.
"There's a larch!" became a common cry during our time north - much to the amusement of our host. She found it odd that we were so excited about a tree. We are a family of nature nerds and we make no apologies :)

Looks like a swan to my eye.
pablo, you have a more elegant eye than I do ;)
"Swamp Chicken" sounds like a recipe for spicey chicken soup.
I'm seeing a gnarled hand grasping the other stick, but with the bent pinkie extended as in tea drinking...
