We Don't Know

Treebeard will pick up anything.

When he handed this little blob to me I thought he was handing me caterpillar frass. When I looked at it a little more closely, I realized it was an insect - some sort of beetle. It was quite small, about 4 mm long, and was found on a blackberry bramble.

So my question is, do you know what it is? If so, would you be so kind as to tell us?

My guess is a black lump leaf beetle

Sorry, I have no clue about your beetle. I also have some mysteries on my blog. Perhaps you might help me with ID?

Okay, so I thought that maybe I could be intelligent and discover what kind of beetle this way, and after looking through all of the beetle pictures I could find, I am still stumped. Sorry about that.

That was supposed to say this was, by the way. I'm slightly distracted today, too much going on!

How about a forked fungus beetle?

Deadmike, the beetle is similar in appearance, but doesn't quite match the description of the forked fungus beetle.

I'm hoping this will give the proper URL. If not - bugguide: warty leaf beetle ((Chlamisini)). I just ran across it looking for an id for a presumptive beetle that turned out to be a moth. HA! So take that with a grain of salt.
