we found a fawn in our back yard tonight--under our apple tree. it didn't appear injured, so we let her wander a bit into our "woods" when she finally got up (after 20 minutes). we live in town actually.
cathy, They really are beautiful snakes. Of course, like all water snakes, they tend to bite when you mess with them so it's best to appreciate them from a distance.
SQ, Don't worry about your fawn. Fawns spend a great deal of time alone when they are small. The doe goes off and feeds then comes back to nurse the fawn. You can be pretty sure that mom knew her baby was hanging out in your yard.
