When you live in a swamp biting flies are a fact of life and make no mistake, it hurts when those critters bite! So nothing brings a smile to my face quicker than hearing the whir of wings as a dragonfly swoops in to pluck up one of those pestiferous flies before it can bite. The dragon pictured above is a Halloween Pennant,
Celithemis eponina, standing guard in the wilds of the side-yard.

This seems to be a good time of year for dragonfly pictures, and I very much like the idea of a watch-dragon. I also cheer bats and swallows as they swoop up mosquitos, and flickers as they go after the ants.
Wren,
What would we do without all the little bug-eaters out there? I could use a house gecko about now -- we are having a heck of time with ants this year.
A really good picture! Different from dragonflies around here -- from what I've noticed anyway.
anvilcloud,
Thanks, I'm glad you like the picture. You have some interesting dragonflies up your way that we don't get here.
