Luckily for this little fellow, I tend to watch where I step as I move along the trail. Sitting right smack in the middle of the trail and unconcerned with my passing, this Cope's Gray Treefrog (
Hyla chrysoscelis) gave me a smile as I snapped its picture.

He was beautiful. Driftwood is an excellent comparison :)
I've only had a few 'up close and personal' encounters with these critters. Like yours - they were remarkably unperturbed. That doesn't seem very adaptive for survival. Go figure.

My guess would be that by sitting very still with their legs tucked under they make themselves nearly invisible to those predators without color vision.
