Calling Card

Posted by Picasa

We had some visitors to the yard...and they left their calling cards! A tidy little pile of bobwhite (quail) droppings - the birds tend to roost in a sort of circle with their heads pointing out and their tails pointing toward the center. As a result, you end up with a cute little collection of droppings.

Swampy- As usual I learn something new from you. Who could have thought that I'd learn so much about poo! Thanks for all these little bits of nature factoids that you post.

Maineiac,
I have a whole PowerPoint presentation on poo - I'll have to share that sometime ;)

Hope you had a great Thanksgiving. I hear you are headed west for Christmas.

I knew it would be poo.
I was expecting bear, but that quail pile is such a neat thing.

Woo-hoo. Signs of life :)

FC,
Of course I had bear on the memory card! I'm still working on my bear scat through the year project. Whatyda think...calendar or t-shirt?

pushesrb,
There is life -- just barely though. I am trying to get over my first cold in about 5 years...kicking my tail.

Hi Ma'am,

Your blogs have been missed. However, I've been able to incorporate the luner info you present with the astronomy class I'm taking. Thanks.

Uncle Bear,
I'm glad the moon phase box has been helpful. Hope you are enjoying your astronomy class - happy stargazing!

The explosion and thunder of a covey rise has left many with an open mouth and wide eyes.
I wish quail could make more of a comeback. I've missed them for years.
Seen many of those piles. Thanks for the flashback.

I had no idea about the head-out circle. Fascinating, as well as sensible.

Cool! I would LOVE to see a PowerPoint presentation on poo! Well, wild-critter poo, anyway.

woodduck,
I have had the stuffing scared out of me more than once by a covey rise :) We are fortunate to have a few quail both in the home swamp and in the work swamp. They never fail to make me smile when I see or hear them.

wren,
Can't you just see them in your mind's eye - tails in, heads out.

rurality,
Maybe one of these days I'll get brave and post my program. But don't you know there would be some highly disappointed surfers who were looking for the other kind of scat ;)

Bloggy,
Yep, I need to make you some of my famous scat cookies - they have a marshmallow and chocolate base, too.
