Track of the Cat

Posted by Picasa

The bobcat that made these tracks was about half mile ahead of me on the trail. I watched him through my binoculars for about 10 minutes. Sometimes our super-straight, long trails offer up wildlife viewing opportunities you don't get on more picturesque hiking trails. This was one of three bobcats I was able to observe this week -- have I mentioned lately that I love my job ;)

You see bobcats. I saw two turkey vultures today. For me it was a fantastic birding day. I'd love to walk with you and your family, but I can't. However, I can enjoy your photos, and they are wonderful. Happy New Year.

"... have I mentioned lately that I love my job ;)" You are fortunate.

I get a glimpse of a bobcat every once and a while, but I've just blundered across the cat and we are close enough that the bobcat doesn't hang around for more than a second or two.

Have a great 2009!

Hey Uncle Bear! Happy New Year to you, too. Hope 2009 treats you right.

Yes, I am fortunate - I worked for years in a job I didn't love, so I know what I have now is special.

Right back at ya!

I love your job too! Bobcats are amazingly beautiful animals.

My name link will take you to a pic of my own Bobcat encounter.

I try to keep that in mind when things are tough :)

Susan Rose,
Wow! I've never managed to get that close to a bobcat. Ours are very wary and disappear into the thickest part of the brush whenever I get close. I can't even imagine getting as close as you did!
