Three Good Things

It has a been a very frustrating summer for me. Way too much time spent in the office and way too little time spent outdoors. Today I managed to get out for a few hours. It was wonderful -- I feel almost human again ;) There was much to see, but I will just share my favorite three for the day...

Squirrel Treefrog

Transforming tadpole of unknown species -- king of all he surveys

A young mother out for a stroll with the kids.

Life is good.

Pablo,
That's how it is here in Oz ;)

sweet bay,
One of these days I'm going to get a really good shot of a bear instead of a zoomed, fuzzy one. But until then, I will be satisfied with what I can get!

Swampy- I'm glad you had such a great day because as usual you provided us with pictures. I had a Maine day yesterday with an eagle fishing in front of the house and black ducks swimming with me in the lake. I just didn't have a camera handy.! Chipmunk population has been safe for the last two weeks. Maineiac

A great day indeed. The bears are totally awesome, though I have to admit the king of all he surveys is more than a wee bit of fun.

Now back to those bears...

FC,
These bears are almost as cute as your Bear.

Maineiac,
You don't know how many times Treebeard and I say "wonder what Maineiac is up to today." Any day in Maine is a good day! Very cool about the eagle and I'm delighted that "my" chipmunks are hanging tight!

jason,
I was able to watch the bears for about 15 minutes as they wandered along the road. Of course, as soon as they became aware of me they took off. As for the little king...he is near and dear to my heart. I've checked on his little mud puddle from time to time this summer -- always in fear that I would find it dried up before any of the tadpoles transformed. When I saw him swimming around and then climbing out onto the gravel, I just had to smile.

your tadpole is probably a peeper...although he/she could be a treefrog, by the same token. Unlikely a cricket, definitely not a leopard, green, or bull.

Swamp Thing,
Given its location and the time of year, I'm leaning toward gray treefrog or pine woods treefrog.
