Blackwater Bubbles

Our recent rains have the ditches running fast. Swamp water, laden with organic material, flows over an obstruction and begins to foam...
At first the foam is fresh and bright...
But as it dries out atop the water flowing beneath, it changes character. It becomes a tan color and actually breaks off in tiny chunks that become airborne. Sometimes, when the wind picks up, it almost looks like snow swirling.

You have some really nice photos on your blog here. On this page I like the frog and the frog in hand pictures the best.

LOL! When I glanced at the first two photos, I thought it was snow. (It snowed here overnight, so I figured you were getting the same treatment--only a lot more of it.)

Swamp snow!
I think more rain is on the way.

jason,
You had snow?! No fair!! The foam really does look like snow when it's swirling in the air. The first time I ever saw it, it happened to be a cold and overcast day in the winter -- I actually thought it was flurries ;)

FC,
Oh yeah, more rain is definitely on the way. It has rained all day and the "big stuff" hasn't even gotten here yet.

We get the foam here sometimes too, and I've wondered what caused it.
