Awesome yellow bellied. It is so cool to see one that is from the wild, most of my experience has been with tank raised individuals. I was thinking though that the scientific name didn't look quite right Isn't the genus for sliders Trachemys?

Great images, I always am excited when your new posts pop up in my RRS reader, the herps in your part of the country are very cool.

Right you are, Tom! Sorry about that...the genus is indeed Trachemys. Senior moment, I guess ;)

Melody,
Glad you like the photo and thanks for the compliment!

SQ,
It's been a while since our last trip to the OBX. When we do go we tend to hit the few remaining natural spots like Pea Island and Nags Head Woods. But, if you are coming down Hwy. 17 you can stop by and see me at the work swamp. Drop me a line at swamp4me [at] gmail {.} com and I'll tell you where to stop.
