Heads Up!

It's not a good photograph in the technical sense, but I don't care. The face of this rough green snake (Opheodrys aestivus) is just too cute not to share. It was busy hunting for insects and spiders in a tangle of grape vine when I startled it. After checking me out, it slipped back in among the leaves and vines.

That is one beautiful snake!! And cute, too. The photo is perfect! I love the way this snake blends in with its surroundings.

P.S. Thanks for identifying my insect on the dandelion. Hover Flies are such interesting insects - I didn't know there were so many kinds. :)

Very cute little snake! I never thought I would say that a snake had a sweet face, but this one sure does.

I see these only occasionally in my woods. I think you got a great photo.

april,
Thanks! Green snakes are masters at blending in with their surroundings. It's always a treat to spot one.

FC,
If I could only convince my camera to see the light the same way my eye does...sigh.

Melody,
Green snakes are not aggressive at all. I have never had one even think about striking when being caught. They will musk, though! Sweet-looking, yes. Sweet-smelling, not so much ;)

Pablo,
You just need more vines in those woods of yours...
