A couple of days ago Treebeard found this wolf spider trapped in a container full of water. He reached in and plucked her out.
Such a good man, my Treebeard.
As you can see, the spider had her egg case firmly in tow.
Looks sort of like a little blue world, doesn't it?

What a gorgeous spider! What a beautiful egg case! Thank you, Treebeard, for saving this small precious creature and her offspring. Do you think she will be OK? Do you know her name?
Woodswalker,
I think she will be okay. She took off when Treebeard put her down. The spider is one of the rabid wolf spiders, Rabidosa punctulata. Its common name is dotted wolf spider -- a name it gets from the spots on the underside of its abdomen.
A man after my own heart. Reminds me of my brother-in-law, who painstakingly transported several frog and salamander egg sacs from an almost dried up puddle in some old truck tracks to a vernal pool nearby during our walk in the forest on Sunday afternoon.
karen,
It's comforting to know that there are good guys out there. I hope the amphibs your BIL transported do well.
Aaaagghhhhhhh!
Hehe, I knew you'd like this one F.C. ;)
OH MY ------ aaaaaaggggghhhhhh!!!
you do know they bite and are one of the deadliest spiders????
lej619,
It's true they will bite if you mishandle them, but they are not deadly by any stretch of the imagination.
