Wow! What an amazing contrast! Butterflies -- synbols of beauty -- on a pile of poop! Do these butterflies eat bear scat? Do you get lots of bears near you? Tell us more!
Swampy, swampy, swampy- Wonderful photo! But can we talk about your compulsion to photo poop? I know you have a collection of scat photo's, what do these two pictures bring the total to? Maineiac
Sashindoubutsu, I'm glad you enjoy the blog. I hope you'll stop by from time to time to see what's up in the swamp.
woodswalker, Butterflies have odd tastes ;) Not only do they enjoy scat, they like to indulge in vomit, urine, carrion, and mud, too. Yum! They are after salts and minerals. Perhaps I will do a "puddling" post soon and share the little bit I know about their behavior. As for your question about bears -- Yes! we have loads of bears and they are quite big.
woodduck, Good job! ;)
Maineiac, I can't begin to even count the number of scat photos I have -- and I am always scouting for more :D Why just the other day I got a lovely photo of some dove droppings. Quite distinctive, I must say.
Do try to get the bear...I had one step out on the path at Hontoon Island on the St Johns River, FL. Looked at me and stepped into the woods. No camera.

Do you use the same caterer for all your parties, or just the ones where butterflies are invited?
denapple,
;-) Mother Nature caters all my parties!

Gorgeous butterflies! We only get the tiger swallowtails up here - although sometimes a black and blue variety of swallowtail shows up.
Poo pics - every good naturalist should have a collection!
This is why the store is always out of butterfly mouthwash.
Swampy, have you started your book yet?
miss you
Carol,
I've managed to get a couple of pictures of the bears, but nothing outstanding. I do keep my camera ready though!
Ellen,
It is my goal to have a picture of poo for each picture of an animal -- it will make a great matching game one of these days ;)
FC,
The swallowtails that were on the otter scat are the ones that are gonna need mouthwash. Bear scat usually doesn't smell much -- go figure.
Hey SQ,
Nope, no book and I have missed you, too!
