While out on the trail scouting for a wildflower program I'm giving tomorrow I happened upon something unexpected. Look carefully at the photo. Can you see what I saw?
Hugh, Nope. You were right with your first impression. But around the common name is canebrake rattlesnake instead of timber - same species, different coloration.

My first impression was timber rattler, but I think it's a hognose.
hugh,
What if I had added that the only reason I saw her was because I heard a faint, yet pleasant buzzing in the weeds?
Let me amend that...I don't really think of Virginia creeper as a weed. Let's call it trailside vegetation instead ;)
Ooh that does look timberish. Looking forward to more photos of that.
I had to "embiggen" the photo before I saw it. I wish I had your trained eye. (Let me know when you're done with it, okay?)
Hmm. Pygmy rattlesnake?
tai haku,
Timberish indeed! Well done.
Pablo,
Embiggen away! She was tough to spot.
