I know some of you have aversions to snakes, but this one is cute and it couldn't bite me even if it wanted to because its mouth is too small. (Take a deep breath Keith! Just think of it as exposure therapy.)
Carphophis amoenus amoenus -- a long name for a tiny little Worm Snake...
...with quite a pretty belly.
These snakes are very small. Adults range in size from 7.5 to 12.5 inches (191 to 318 mm). Earthworms make up most of their diet.

Very cute!
Swampy, the boy and I will be smack dab in the middle of the home of loud noisy people, flashing lights, pulsing music and beeping sound effects from video games...better known as Chuck E Cheese. So while I take my leave of the swamp, I may wish I hadn't. (Pizza!)
I really like this and the salamander.
uh, yuk. why do i want to cover my nose holes?
(salamander's cute though)
Deep breath, deep breath, cute snake, cute snake. Thanks for the encouragement, says he, trying not to hyperventilate.....
I will never look at another earthworm the say way again. They could be snakes in earthworms clothing.
This is not right. I hear Mother Nature cackling somewhere.
And a question, Swampy: Are racers poisonous?
And a comment: Yay! She's back! With new pictures and new sssssnake pictures. What could be better?

Chryscat, racers are not venomous, but they do tend to be somewhat aggressive if you corner them. We have tons of them around our house. I am always amazed at how effortlessly they seem to glide over the ground!
