Relief

I finally got to talk to my brother today. He is home safe in Natchez. He had been in New Orleans, but heeded the warnings to get out before the storm struck. He has opened his home to friends from New Orleans who managed to get out, but is worried about those friends that didn't leave.
I have been trying to get in touch with him for a week but each time I called I received the recorded message that the phone lines were out due to the hurricane. It was very reassuring to hear his voice today...

I bet you are relieved. I have a friend headed down to Mississippi who works on a Search and Rescue team. It sounds just terrible down there. Glad to hear your family is safe and sound.

Glad to hear that you finally heard from him. I know how worried you were about that. Hope everything else is going good.

P.S.--Might have a temp. solution for my drama :)

So happy for your relief. The stories about people who can't reach other people are so heartbreaking, and enraging. No excuse, none, de nada.

Watching the stations that are letting people talk directly to the camera, I'm struck by how brave and to the point people are being. "I can't reach my brother Jim. He lives in whatever county. My phone number is 555-whatever. Please call." Or on the other end, "My name is Jane Doe. Just want my family in wherever to know we're okay. We've lost everything but we're all alive." God.
