Yet Another One

Posted by Picasa

Seems we've been adopted by yet another kitty. This one is probably around four months old, appears very healthy, is very social, and was most likely intentionally dumped on the doorstep of our new house by someone eager to get rid of a kitten. Heavy sigh...I really did not intend to add another cat to the family. We had just adjusted to the loss of Bullet a couple of months ago and were content to be a one-cat, one-dog, one-fish, three-snake household. But what can one do? Those of us who know how these things work know full well that we don't choose the cats, the cats choose us ;)

The as yet un-named feline is spending its last night as an outdoor kitty. She is over at the new house with a warm box on the porch, along with a food bowl and some water. Tomorrow we go to the vet for a check up and shots and then it's time to meet Wicket (aka Wiki), our current cat, and begin a new life as an indoor cat.

Softy!
Lucky her to find you two.
3 snakes huh?

School tale at PF today that you can probably relate to.

FC,
Yep. I'm the sucker, Treebeard just follows the theory of "love Swampy, love her cats."
The three snakes are all native species, raised from the egg. We use the snakes in educational programming. Since we don't believe in taking snakes out of the wild for programs, we bit the bullet 16 years ago and got our first snake.

That's one lucky cat! Who needs 9 lives when you've walked in a welcome mat like that.

Bob,
She is a lucky one for sure! Treebeard thought her name should be Lucky but I've settled on Friday. Lucky was a not-so-nice character in a book I read a long time ago so I'm not too fond of the name ;)

Swampy-

SIL called to see if I had read about Friday nee Lucky. That's when I heard about Honda. Topping it off was her story about her black kitten. Ya'll must be having an epidemic of black cats. I think I'd search the woods around the house to make sure that you don't end up with a Robinson or Cursoe added to the menagerie!

I'm sure you agree, strays taken in become wonderfully grateful companions.

We now have FIVE cats.
All strays, all found in he yard--and all very loving, attached animals.

Good luck with your new family member!

Maineiac,
Heh, guess what...there was a third black cat in the yard. She wandered out a while after Honda appeared! Honda turned out to be a male and the third one, Weasel, is a female. Treebeard named Weasel - she's a nibbler.

nina,
Thanks. So far, there has been much hissing and tail puffing between Wiki and Friday. Our ancient lab/golden, Hannah, hasn't seemed to notice the addition of another cat. As long as Hannah receives her cookies on time she doesn't care what I bring home ;)

I had a feeling when SIL told me the story about Honda that you'd find another one in the vicinity. No, I'd don't need another one. Two is the limit for an RV! Can't give one to Flamebrain can you because of Lucy's preference for cats! Good luck finding home for Weasel. Definately a case for spaying and neutering. My recent experience says that hissing and tail puffing will subside in about three days:}

Maineiac,
They just keep on coming...one more came out today. Let's hope this one is the last of the bunch. Four black cats at once is a bit much :-P As I type this, Friday is sitting on my lap purring her crazy little head off -- damn cat!

Swampy- I hope you're not superstitious (sp). Spelling was not my forte. I talked to SIL last night, she's trying to tame her black cat as well. Wouldn't that be something! Just keep Grace away from all these cats! And thanks again for the morning laughs!
