Swamp, I realize that heron is in a freshwater swamp, but have you ever seen one with a clam clamped to their foot? I have seen this about 3 times in my life, so I am thinking it's an occupational hazard of walking around bare birdfoot in soft marsh mud. Each time, the clam was pretty big and the GBH was obviously struggling to fly with the extra ballast. Take care.
FC, I've never seen a heron with a clam on its foot -- that's bound to be an odd sight! I have seen them with fishing line and lures stuck to them though. Now that is a sad sight indeed.
