I am turning into a regular pit stop for newly emerged dragonflies. As I stood on the trail near the pond, this dragonfly fought its way through the wind and stopped for a rest on my arm. She stayed long enough for me to snap a picture and make an ID: common basket-tail.

You made an ID bracelet out of him you say?
They obviously know a friend when they see them. Is that dragonfly's back pink? Is that how you know it's a girl?

Bloggy, my "real" name is too long to fit on such a petite beastie so she wouldn't make a very good ID bracelet :)
Chryscat, I could tell it was a female because of her color (no, her back isn't pink -- that's just the reflection from my sweater *g*) and the size and shape of her abdomen.
Are you sure? Have you like tried with maybe a really fine laundry marker?
Swampy, my son mentioned a dragonfly today and I told him I joked with you about writing your name on a dragonfly ID bracelet, but that you said your name was too long to fit.
He said, "I bet her name is Patalina Madalina, Oopsa Dina, Waka dina Hoaka, Loka, Moka"
My guess is that's probably not correct, but in the interest of anonymity, we'll stop there. :)
