Somebody had a big lunch! This rat snake (Elaphe obsoleta) has lived around our house for several years. She is a tad over five feet long now and apparently is eating quite well. If I had to take a guess, I'd say that large lump in her middle is probably either a couple of cotton rats or a rabbit.

Have you thought about charging rent?
I was wondering if you'd named her.

Maybe you could just be subtle. "Honey? You know, I sure could use a new belt...."
AMG, thanks for stopping by.
Chryscat, no "official" name, although we do refer to her as Big Mama on occasion :)
Bloggy, no rent necessary - she pays her way by eating the mice under the house. But funny you should mention the belt...we have a king snake that we use in educational programs and he loves to weave his way through my belt loops while I am talking to a group. He's a real ham :)
I'd be afraid he'd help me with the button at an inopportune moment.
more efficient than a cat, i'd wager . . .
oh--that was me--lazy SQ
You're right SQ, much more efficient than a cat. At least the snake eats all of the little beasts it catches. My cats, both of whom are indoor only, are great at catching mice and then leaving little tidbits here and there for me to clean up.
