Meanwhile, Back At The House

Things are progressing at the construction site. There was a hiccup with the county inspectors over the chimney, but that has been resolved. Work inside is moving along as insulation and drywall are being installed. Siding should be making an appearance sometime soon.

We are becoming more and more comfortable with the idea that we are going to be homeowners -- or perhaps we're just numb with the shock of being in debt ;)

Gotta love building inspectors... can't live with them, can't live without them!

Oh, I could live without them...

Swampy, it's beautiful. Classic southern coastal.

Don't get me started on the inspectors! Our county seems to have a whole corps of inspectors that no other county around has...driveway inspector, nail inspector...who knows what's next! >:-/

FC,
Thanks. We like it. Of course, with a green roof you know the siding will have to be gray...it just gets in your blood ;)

Love the design! When do you hope to be in? If you were building on Roanoke Island, it would be green roof and white siding. Love 'em both, but a green roof is a must for me. What color will you be using for under your porch roof? I'm told that sky blue is the color to us because it keeps wasp from nesting underneath. Mine is dark green.

melody,
We should be in by November 1, the effective date of my husband's retirement.
The porch ceiling will most likely be white. I have heard the same thing about the sky blue color, but we don't worry about wasps. Besides, my husband and one of my sons are NCSU grads -- can't have a UNC blue porch under those circumstances ;)

Swampy-

The house looks great. You could have a UNC porch roof and a NCSU red front door! That would satisfy that rivalry. Then you could add in your school colors for the back door. Interesting about the blue color, I'll have to try that on my motorhome vents, i'll paint the inside blue.

I love the style of your new house. And I'm familiar with the anxiety. In 2002 I bought my first house as a single woman, and I had trouble sleeping for awhile. : )

maineiac,
Hmmm, purple and gold french doors...somehow I think not ;)

susan,
It is amazing what thoughts crawl out from under the bed when you're trying to sleep...mortgage payments, insurance, taxes, termites, and on and on. Then there are the news casters opening their evening broadcasts with stories of economic doom and gloom. Oh well, gotta spend our money on something, it might as well be a house of our own.

What's wrong with the purple and gold french doors?!?! I think I'll do that now that I'm a graduate!

woverman,
While I am a loyal alum, I draw the line at painting my french door! Perhaps a flag in the yard? It's a pirate's life for me...

Great house - it must be exciting to see your future home being built.

Home-owning is ok. I was petrified of it at first - I only bought a house at all because my dad bullied me into it. But I got used to it pretty quickly and I like the autonomy - no weird landlord clauses telling you what you can and can't do.

crowe,
We always feel fine when we are actually at the house...it's when we come home to the house we live in now that the anxiety sneaks in.
