It was too cold to get out and creep up on this kingfisher. Instead, I just lowered the window and powered up to 48X. The result? A lousy photo, but a warm Swampy ;)
These birds are usually so sleek - it was odd to see one all puffed out against the cold.
Other sightings today included a bobcat and an otter. No photos to share of those, I'm afraid.

I like how it enwreathed itself. Clever bird!
It IS so perfectly framed! A bobcat? From your window?
How much fish did you promise him to sit within the circle of greenery? Maineiac
I like how he found himself a wreath. :)
Hugh,
Sadly, I didn't even notice the wreath until I downloaded the photo :P
KaHolly,
In this case it was the window of my truck. But I do see bobcats from my office window from time to time.
Maineiac,
I told him he could have all the mud minnows he could eat ;)
sweet bay,
He does look like he picked the spot to showcase himself :)
I have found that when shooting nature, we have to take what we can get, nature waits on no one for the right time. The photo looks fine, though a bit of camera shake is noticeable but that too can be expected when you use a telephoto. The bird could not have picked a better place to show itself, looks as though it is inside a wreath. Lovely! : )
I love the wreath! Now that's a bird with an eye toward style. Great capture!
Kenneth,
I knew when I took it that the picture wouldn't be too good. Mostly I use photos like this one to remind me of things I've seen and where I saw them. It was a really pretty bird though!
jason,
Kingfishers are just naturally stylish, don't you think?
