Wonderful pictures Swampy. I've been trying to an action shot of a vulture for years. They are so wary of humans and quick to flight. I did find one once in a hollow tree sitting on eggs and she vomited at me....UGH. The vultures won't be back in our area until the middle of March. I always look forward to their return, for me it symbolizes the return of spring.
Never had a vulture throw-up at me, nor would I want too, ugh! A disgusting but very necessary bird. I will stick to my Alder catkins as the harbinger of spring, LOL! Great shots though. : )
Very cool vultures. I came upon a group of TVs once quite unexpectedly - I don't know who was more surprised, them or me. They sidled away from me and eventually flew off.

WOW! Those are the closest up pictures I've ever seen! Quite remarkable. What is it a carcass of? Do you know? ~karen
KaHolly,
Digital zoom is a wondrous thing! ;) The carcass is from a white-tailed deer.

MObugs,
Vulture vomit is an effective deterrent ;) For us, spring arrives when the first yellow-throated warblers show up.
