Check out the lovely poison ivy vine and all its little baby vines. I can't believe Treebeard agreed to put his hand in the photo to provide a size comparison -- ivy makes him break out into a very nasty rash ;)
I always like finding these mature vines. They usually create a neat scene as the woolly tentacle slithers its way toward the treetops. (Thankfully I'm not allergic to it!)
woodswalker, Funny, Treebeard has that same reaction ;)
woverman, To be fair, it is a good plant for wildlife and the leaves are really pretty in the spring and fall...
jason, I have run across some huge ivy vines out in the swamp -- many much larger than this one. And I'm in that same minority -- it doesn't cause a reaction for me either.
FC, Ah, nothing like getting a nasty rash while your learning the law enforcement ropes...

Aaargh!!! Makes me itch just to look at the photo!
Lovely and poison ivy by no means belong in the same sentence. I'll probably get that nasty rash from just looking at the picture!

Years ago I leaned up against a bare ivy tree just like that on the FLETC campus.
Not fun.
