Catchin' Some Rays

Look who was out catchin' some rays on a fine January day...

A very nice northern rough green snake. Treebeard spotted it as it lounged in the afternoon sun. Such pretty snakes!

He's lovely! I miss snakes this time of year up here in the great white north.

woodswoman,
But you have snow. We almost never get measurable snow :(

Ooh! So pretty! Do we ever have northern green snakes up here in northern NY? If we do, they won't be up and about for months to come. And now our lovely snow has been rained on and ruined. :(

Ok, enough already! It's 24 degrees in OH-IO this morning. Our rough and smooth greens are hibernating!

I wonder if these snakes are more at risk to predation in winter/early spring when their worlds aren't full of green vegetation.

Such a sweet, innocent little face. In Central Maine it is now snowing for day 3, so our snakes are hiding out some place warm and cozy, I hope! ~karen

What a lovely little snake. I've been trying to find one of these little beauties for several years and have had no luck. I would love to photograph one.

As a rule I'm not keen on snakes. This smooth green snakie is fetching, from a distance, of course! He looks a bit like a garden hose. Slither, sliter.
